The Neonatology Department at Kyungpook National University Children’s Hospital plays a central role in neonatal intensive care and the management of high-risk newborns, dedicating itself to ensuring the survival and healthy growth of premature and critically ill infants.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Opened in 2014, the NICU operates with 31 beds, utilizing the latest medical equipment and a skilled medical team to provide the best care for premature and high-risk newborns.

Key Treatment Services

• Management of Premature and Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants: Providing stable environments for treatment with advanced ventilators and incubators.

• High-Frequency Ventilation and Nitric Oxide Therapy: Treatment for severe respiratory diseases and pulmonary hypertension in newborns.

• Hypothermic Therapy: Prevention and treatment of ischemic brain injury caused by neonatal asphyxia.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration System

• Collaboration with Obstetrics: Preparing for high-risk pregnancies and establishing neonatal care plans immediately after delivery.

• Specialty Collaborations: Conditions like patent ductus arteriosus, retinopathy of prematurity, and surgical diseases are treated with the collaboration of thoracic surgery, ophthalmology, and pediatric surgery, with procedures conducted within the NICU.
